The manufacture of steam turbines requires high quality, especially when it comes to guide vanes from Siemens Energy. In 2018, a supplier delay triggered a crisis that delayed delivery beyond the completion of the turbine. This led to a rethink towards additive manufacturing, particularly with WAAM technology. The immediate availability of parts and the newly gained independence from traditional supply chains meant a significant change in strategy. Siemens Energy was the first company in the world to use the WAAM process in series production – with our Arc machine series. The highlight?
